Sorry! the map isn't up yet.

The map isn't up. We just haven't had nearly the time to get it to alpha like we thought we would.

Due to the 2011-77 hearings and preparation of our final report on that action, things became prioritised on getting that right along with getting our site finally presentable. It was better to do some things well than to have everything rushed.

Nonetheless the viewer portion of the map is developed with Microsoft Silverlight and for compatibility testing purposes we have a placeholder keeping things warm at http://www.worldbroadbandmap.com

If you'd like to be notified when things get going again or if you'd like to be an alpha tester, please sign up for our mailing list and we'll let you know.

It's coming soon. Things are getting worse in the States next.

While you wait, here's a list of other broadband maps and similar resources that we'll also be drawing from.

Global
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8068598.stm - The BBC's world broadband map. Seems to be an ongoing project similar to ours (but far less feature rich) with some video links from around the world. The videos are highly recommended viewing.

http://chartsbin.com/view/2484 - Global speed tests from Pando networks. Some good info in the comments, especially for Romania where one commenter says coverage/availability/speed varies a great deal across the country, Singapore's stats come in lower than they should be. Another key point that measurement "on the ground" is the best approach

http://www.cablemap.info/ - Greg's cable map. A map of the world's undersea cables. Not entirely relevant to us but it's a good peek into which places can be reasonably short on international bandwidth and which others are not

USA
http://www.muninetworks.org/communitymap - US community broadband map and http://www.muninetworks.org/content/community-broadband-preemption-map - A map of the US states that may have legal barriers preventing public/community networks from establishing

http://broadbandmap.gov/ - US Broadband map. A boondoggle for info but some good info on local ISP's available (criticism http://www.slate.com/id/2294814 and http://stopthecap.com/2011/02/17/the-national-broadband-map-is-here-and-...)

http://broadband.com/map - (conflict of interest though, also run by bandwidth.com a wholesale provider)

http://www.fcc.gov/maps/connect-america-fund-caf-phase-i - A map of the States who will be receiving "Connect America" money to assist in broadband deployment and for which phase.

UK
http://maps.ofcom.org.uk/broadband/ - The UK broadband map (OFCOM)

thinkbroadband.com - http://maps.thinkbroadband.com/ - Another UK broadband map

Canada
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=218367364944839740704.... - Teksavvy POI map

Australia
http://www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/about-the-rollout/communities-in-the-rol... - NBN rollout timeline schedule
